After obtaining his B.B.A. from the University of Winnipeg and J.D. from the University of Manitoba, Stephan looks forward to beginning his legal career at McCarthy Tétrault in Calgary as an articling student.
Born in Munich and raised in Seattle, Stephan moved to Winnipeg in 2010 to pursue a professional ballet career with Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet. After a successful career in dance, he transitioned to the hospitality industry where he excelled as a server, bartender, and general manager at several prominent restaurants and cocktail bars in Winnipeg.
Stephan’s academic performance in law school earned him the Honsa Family Prize in Intellectual Property Law for attaining the highest combined standing in copyright, trademark, and patent law. He was also recognized for his high academic standing in corporate law courses with the ZSA – National Post Richard Leipsic prize.
Throughout law school, Stephan volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada and served as the Senior Editor of the Canadian Journal of Human Rights. He also provided legal assistance to small-business owners and artists through his work with the L. Kerry Vickar Business Law Clinic and Manitoba Legal Clinic for the Arts. Lastly, Stephan worked as a summer law student at both an international lottery and gaming company in Winnipeg and McCarthy Tétrault in Calgary.
Stephan is keeping his interest in fine wine and hospitality alive by pursuing a Diploma in Wines.
