Shauvik Shah is an associate in our Business Law Group in Toronto. He has a Fintech-financial services regulatory and transactional practice, and is focussed on assisting clients navigate Canadian regulatory requirements.

Shauvik has advised on the acquisition of a Canadian Fintech lender, advised various Fintech companies on doing business in Canada, drafted applications on behalf of banking clients to the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) and provided corporate advice to foreign banks entering Canada. He has considerable M&A experience and also specializes in anti-money laundering and consumer protection compliance reviews, including those affecting loyalty programs for several large retailers.

Shauvik is a regular participant at conferences, meet ups and speaking sessions in the Fintech, cryptocurrency and open banking space. He runs the firm’s Fintech Twitter account and is Fintech Content Manager for TechLex, the official blog of the firm’s Technology Law Group. Shauvik has published numerous articles on financial regulation matters, including on the regulation of cryptocurrency in Canada (National Banking Law Review and New York State Bar Association International Law Practicum).

Shauvik is a graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and the Smith School of Business at Queen's University, where he specialized in accounting and finance. Appreciating the importance of international experience in the global economy, Shauvik completed a semester abroad at ESCP European School of Management in Paris, France in the Master in Management program. Most recently, Shauvik obtained his Certificate in Regulatory Compliance & Legal Risk Management for Financial Institutions from Osgoode Hall Law School, which provides training on strategic and regulatory best practises for GCs and financial services professionals.
