Matthew received his law degree from Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops. Prior to this, he graduated from the University of Victoria, receiving a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in History. 

While at TRU, Matthew was awarded the course prize for Mergers & Acquisitions and received a Law Foundation of BC Entrance Scholarship. He also founded the TRU Law Professional Clothing Closet, a club that works to alleviate some of the associated costs of becoming a lawyer while raising funds for local charitable organizations.

In his spare time Matthew enjoys everything outdoors, especially in the company of his dog, June.
