Laaiba Nawal received both a Canadian and an American J.D through the Dual J.D. program at the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society with a minor in Sociology from the University of Calgary.
During law school, Laaiba competed in various moot and alternative dispute resolution competitions. Upon completion of her first year, Laaiba had the opportunity to work at the Washtenaw County Office of Public Defender in Michigan. During this internship, she assisted in representing numerous clients in criminal proceedings. In her third year, Laaiba joined the Student’s Law Society in her role as the 3L Dual J.D. Faculty Council Representative. Also in her third year, Laaiba was a student attorney at the Environmental Law Clinic at the University of Detroit Mercy. In this role, she drafted and filed a Federal Administrative Complaint with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Outside of school, Laaiba enjoys spending time with her family, swimming, rock climbing, and has recently opened a home nail salon.
