The Canadian private equity market experienced a record year of activity, reaching $62 billion in deployed capital. Deal values in the upper market saw a significant increase in 2019, and our national private equity team was at the forefront, helping our clients achieve success on some of Canada’s most important buyout transactions, including:

• Brookfield Infrastructure and GIC, the Singapore sovereign wealth fund, in the US$8.4 billion acquisition of Genesee & Wyoming Inc.
• Rhône Capital Partners in its $US5.2 billion sale of a majority stake in GardaWorld to BC Partners
• A consortium including TD Greystone Asset Management and IST3 Investment Foundation in its C$1.7 billion acquisition of up to 100% of Alberta PowerLine from Canadian Utilities Limited and Quanta Services Inc.
• Cortland Partners, LLC in its US$1.2 billion acquisition of Pure Multi-Family REIT LP
• GI Partners in the acquisition of Insurity, Inc.  
• Novacap in its acquisition Spectrum Health Care
