Actions commenced against RBC by Nadine Ahn and Ken Mason

Office Involved

McCarthy Tétrault is assisting Royal Bank of Canada ("RBC"), as defendants, in actions brought on by RBC’s former CFO, Nadine Ahn, and senior treasury executive, Ken Mason, who were both terminated with cause after an RBC internal investigation revealed Ms. Ahn had used her position as CFO to give Mr. Mason preferential pay raises and an executive-level promotion while Ms. Ahn and Mr. Mason were in an undisclosed close personal relationship. Ms. Ahn and Mr. Mason both commenced separate actions against RBC in August 2024. Ms. Ahn and Mr. Mason each deny the relationship and allege their terminations were unwarranted. They seek a combined $69.3 million against RBC, including $30 million for defamation for the press release issued by RBC to satisfy its continuous disclosure obligations under applicable securities laws. RBC counterclaims for $7.6 million to claw back incentive compensation.

McCarthy Tétrault is assisting RBC with a team led by Sarit Batner and Moya Graham that includes Morgan Watkins and Javid Dharas (Litigation).
