Matthew Peters* is the firm's National Innovation Leader and a partner in the Technology Group. In this role, Matthew is responsible for the development of the firm’s overall approach to the marketplace and clients. He also oversees the firm’s industry and client programs, which incorporates the development of client service plans and operation of the firm’s client satisfaction measurement program.
Matthew has been ranked among Canada’s top lawyers by numerous publications, such as the 2017 The Best Lawyers in Canada in the area of technology law and information technology law, and he has been named The Best Lawyers' Vancouver Technology Law Lawyer of the Year in 2012 and 2015. He also appears in the 2016 edition of the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory as a leading lawyer in the areas of computer and IT, corporate mid-market, private equity and technology transactions law, as well as the 2012 Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business in the area of information technology; and the 2011 International Who’s Who of Internet and E-Commerce Lawyers.
Matthew was the recipient of the 2010 Lexpert Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 award for his exceptional leadership and the high level of service he provides to his clients.
Highlights of Matthew's recent experience include:
- acting as lead counsel and negotiator in a number of large business process outsourcings, one of which was the largest in its market in Canada;
- complex licensing and alliance arrangements; and
- complex commercial telecommunication transactions.
Matthew is active in both industry and community organizations. He. also lectures at various programs and conferences on numerous topics including outsourcing, privacy, mergers and acquisitions and start-up issues.
Matthew received his LLB in 1994 from the University of Victoria where he received several awards including the Law Foundation Scholarship and the Allan Higenbottom Award. He was called to the British Columbia bar in 1995.
