Michael Feder, K.C., Inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers

Recognizing his exceptional dedication to the practice of litigation and trial advocacy, McCarthy Tétrault partner Michael Feder, K.C., has been inducted as a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.

Admission to the fellowship is by invitation only and follows rigorous vetting that includes both peer and judicial review. Its membership extends to nearly 40 countries and invites fellows that possess the following qualifications to an exceptional degree:

• superior skill in trial and appellate practice;
• dedication to promoting the best interests of the legal profession and the highest standards and techniques of advocacy; and
• excellent character, professionalism, and absolute integrity.

Michael is widely recognized as one of Canada’s preeminent litigators with specializations that make him go-to counsel for some of the country’s most high-profile and challenging disputes. Michael's work has included complex class action and other aggregated litigation, mass tort and product liability cases, shareholders' disputes, securities litigation, contractual disputes, and constitutional claims. He has litigated cases in the courts of most provinces and territories as well as in the Federal Court. He defended clients in two of the longest trials in Canadian history, including a rare trial of common issues in two consumer class actions.

As an appellate litigator, Michael has acted in over 30 Supreme Court of Canada appeals, including as amicus curiae appointed by the Chief Justice of Canada to assist the court. Michael was named Appellate Practice Lawyer of the Year in the 2022 and 2024 editions of The Best Lawyers in Canada.

In addition to his most recent induction, some of Michael’s other notable achievements include fellowship with the American College of Trial Lawyers and the Litigation Counsel of America, recognition by Benchmark Litigation on its list of the Top 50 Trial Lawyers in Canada, being named one of Canada’s Top 25 Most Influential in the justice system by Canadian Lawyer, and being listed as a Leading Lawyer by Chambers Canada in four separate practice areas. Michael was appointed as King’s Counsel in 2018 and was one of the youngest appointees in British Columbia’s history. He is a member of the McCarthy Tétrault’s governing Board of Partners.
