We are pleased to announce that Mark Johnson, one of Canada’s leading power and infrastructure lawyers, has joined McCarthy Tétrault as a Partner in our Business Law Group. Mark joins the Firm’s Energy, Infrastructure and Construction groups, strengthening our market-leading experience advising on Canada’s most significant energy and infrastructure projects.

Mark is recognized for his work on large-scale, transformative mandates, including public-private partnerships and projects involving nuclear, renewables, transportation, defence, hydrogen, and gaming infrastructure. He advises clients across the full project lifecycle on high-value commercial and project delivery matters — including engineering, procurement & construction (EPC) agreements. His expertise helps clients manage commercial and regulatory risk, align stakeholders, and advance projects from concept to successful delivery in highly regulated and capital-intensive environments.

“Mark is one of the most respected power and infrastructure lawyers in Canada, with a practice that aligns closely with the needs of clients pursuing large-scale, transformative projects,” said Matthew Cumming, Partner and Co-Leader of our Business Law Group. “His experience advising on high-value, capital‑intensive projects reinforces our ability to support clients navigating complex procurement, project delivery and commercial arrangements.”

Richard O’Doherty, Partner and Co-Leader of our Business Law Group, added: “Mark has been a market‑leading advisor on some of the most complex and consequential energy and infrastructure projects in the country. His arrival significantly broadens our ability to support clients undertaking large‑scale, nation‑building projects, particularly in power, nuclear, transportation, and defence, at a time when governments and investors are moving decisively in this space.”

Joining McCarthy Tétrault from another national law firm, Mark brings an active practice advising leading public and private sector clients. His recent work includes advising Ontario Power Generation on the refurbishment of the Pickering and Darlington nuclear generating stations, advising the developers of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, as well as advising on the development of wind, solar and hydro power generation facilities, and other significant infrastructure and energy transition projects. This vast experience gives Mark a practical understanding of the governance, risk allocation, and long‑term planning required for projects that are critical to Canada’s energy and infrastructure systems — insight that he brings to clients undertaking similarly complex mandates.

“McCarthy Tétrault’s national platform and depth across disciplines are critical given the scale and complexity of the projects our clients are now pursuing,” Mark said. “I am excited to work with colleagues across the Firm and the country to advance Canada’s most important infrastructure and energy initiatives.”
