Representing leading research institute in Federal Court copyright and moral-rights action

In June 2026, a settlement was achieved in a Federal Court copyright and moral-rights action, brought by the plaintiff, Tanja Porcnik, a former Fraser Institute researcher and Cato Institute adjunct scholar, against the Fraser Institute and the Cato Institute. The case concerned copyright and moral rights in the 2015–2019 versions of the Human Freedom Index (HFI).
McCarthy Tétrault assisted the Fraser Institute with a team led by Connor Bildfell and Barry Sookman.
