Biography
Caroline Zayid is a partner in our Litigation Group in Toronto. She practises civil litigation with an emphasis on class actions, administrative law, and professional liability.
Ms. Zayid has acted as counsel in several class action proceedings, including such high-profile cases as the Bre-X and Walkerton cases. Current class action retainers of note include representation of a manufacturer in a complex product liability case, and representation of a mutual fund company in defence of allegations of market timing.
Ms. Zayid represents clients in the pharmaceutical industry before the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal in connection with the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations.
She is general counsel to the Ontario College of Teachers, and has extensive experience in the litigation of professional liability issues.
Ms. Zayid is a contributing author to Defending Class Actions in Canada.
From 1993 to 1995, Ms. Zayid served as a special advisor to the Ontario Minister of Education and Training on legislative matters. She has taught trial advocacy at the University of Toronto Law School, and speaks regularly on legal issues in Canada and the United States.
She received her BA in 1985 and her LLB in 1988, both from Dalhousie University. Ms. Zayid was called to the Ontario bar in 1990.
