Our People

Making a Difference Together

Serving our community responsibly requires an environment where each person can make a difference. In order to provide this environment, we must be accountable to the members of our own community — our employees. Our open culture promotes communication and discussion, an approach that consistently creates a strong team that contributes both within and outside the firm. Our values guide how we measure success in making a difference for our people:

  • service excellence;
  • teamwork;
  • honesty;
  • integrity;
  • inclusiveness; and
  • respect.

We are committed to fostering and rewarding each of these values.

Diversity

We respect our communities and understand that we can best serve them when they are represented among our employees. Therefore, we hire and retain staff who are as diverse as the areas in which we live and work. When we consider diversity, we go beyond race, ethnicity and gender to encompass all elements that make us unique, including sexual orientation, life experience, skills and talents.

The Firm is committed to establishing and maintaining a process for receiving and responding to feedback about how its services are provided to people with disabilities. The Firm's AODA policy, practices and procedures are available upon request. Feedback regarding how the Firm provides goods and services to people with disabilities can be made by contacting the Director Human Resources via e-mail at [email protected] or by calling 416-362-1812. Complaints will be addressed as soon as practicable after they have been received.

Volunteerism — Our People Supporting the Community

We encourage our people to support organizations that matter to them with their time and talent, both individually and in teams. Personal involvement helps make our firm a better place to work and improves quality of life and opportunities for others. The more assistance and collaboration we provide, the greater our positive impact.

We make it possible for employees to engage with local communities by offering paid leave to perform community service. The firm also sponsors a variety of activities that enable teams of volunteers to go out into local communities to contribute to meaningful projects. Our efforts currently focus on children's needs.

Highlights include:

  • distributing holiday gifts to a local children's hospital;
  • conducting a food drive for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Canada;
  • purchasing food baskets for needy families;
  • participating in the Adopt-a-Family Program for the holidays;
  • providing Halloween costumes and candy for children of mothers in a women's shelter;
  • fundraising for and participating in the annual Pedal for Kids event in support of a local children's hospital; and
  • providing internships, job integration and employment opportunities for special needs students.

Volunteer Recognition Award

The Volunteer Recognition Award recognizes the contributions of dedicated firm employees who have shown leadership in furthering the quality of life for individuals and families in the community. Through the McCarthy Tétrault Foundation, the award honours the outstanding volunteer efforts of recipients by making an aggregate donation of $10,000 to the Canadian non-profit charitable organization of their choice.
