On December 31, 2008, PowerSteam Inc. and Barrie Hydro Distribution Inc. amalgamated their electricity distribution businesses to form PowerStream Inc., the second largest municipally owned electricity distribution company in Ontario, creating a utility with C$800 million in combined assets providing service to more than 310,000 residential and business customers in Simcoe County and York Region.
