On September 23, 2021, Noventa-Toronto Western L.P. entered into a thermal energy services agreement with the University Health Network to provide the Toronto Western Hospital and Krembil Discovery Tower with the world’s largest raw wastewater energy transfer system which will reduce the site’s carbon emissions by a quarter of a million tonnes over the next 30 years. This is expected to be the template for future wastewater energy transfer systems and financings in Ontario.
This is the first project under the CIB’s Public Building Retrofits Initiative, which seeks to achieve significant energy savings from infrastructure owned and/or managed by the public sector.
