On June 20, 2023, JOLT Charge Inc. ("JOLT"), an Australian electric vehicle (EV) charging company, and TELUS announced a strategic partnership. As part of the partnership, JOLT and TELUS will commence the installation of their comprehensive network of EV charging stations later this year, ensuring that Canadians have convenient access to efficient charging options. Furthermore, these charging stations will incorporate TELUS' public Wi-Fi capability, enhancing the overall user experience for EV owners.

McCarthy Tétrault acted for JOLT in negotiating and documenting a unique strategic collaboration between JOLT and TELUS for the deployment of advertising-integrated electric charging vehicle stations across Canada. Powered by 100 percent renewable energy, JOLT has been working to facilitate the growth of EV usage globally. Coupled with TELUS’ dedication to environmental sustainability and using technology for a greener future, this partnership will create more accessible, affordable EV charging in cities across Canada.

JOLT is Australia’s first and largest network of free, fast electric vehicle fast-charging stations and Australia’s first and only carbon-negative verified digital out-of-home advertising network.

TELUS is a communications technology company with more than $18 billion in annual revenue and 18 million customer connections spanning wireless, data, IP, voice, television, entertainment, video, and security.

McCarthy Tétrault advised JOLT with a team led by Seán O’Neill and Maureen Gillis (Corporate) that included Christine Ing (Tech/Data), Tzen-Yi Goh, Craig Shirreff (Real Property), and Fred Purkey (Tax).
