On June 21, 2021, the CRTC approved the application of Jewelry Television's (JTV) bid to enter Canada. Historically, non-Canadian direct response channels had not been permitted into Canada. However, with the coming into force of CUSMA, our firm was able to land a successful application by US-based JTV to be added to the "Eligible List", meaning that it can now be carried by Canadian distributors. As a direct response company which sells and distributes products in Canada, our team provided additional advice on a range of matters from language requirements, rules relating to precious metals, competition border and tax matters.
JTV is an American television network that sells jewelry, headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee.
McCarthy Tétrault advised JTV with a team led by Grant Buchanan that included Lara Nathans (Business), Marissa Caldwell (Intellectual Property), Jonathan Bitran (Competition), Ana Badour (Financial Services), Kassandra Grenier, Mike Ranger (Tax) and Carmen Francis (Trade).
