On February 21, 2023, Infrastructure Ontario and Niagara Health announced that EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare was awarded a fixed-price contract of approximately C$3.6 billion to design, build, finance and maintain the new South Niagara Hospital. The contract reflects the payments made during construction, the substantial completion payment and the monthly service payments before inflation adjustments. The hospital will take five years to build, with occupancy planned for 2028.

The new South Niagara Hospital will be an integral part of Niagara Health’s connected healthcare system, it will centralize services from existing facilities, making it easier for residents to access the care they need at one location, provide an overall better experience, and enable communities to be healthier. The hospital will have state-of-the-art infection prevention and control measures, and has also been planned with the space and infrastructure to accommodate new and emerging healthcare technology.

McCarthy Tétrault advised Infrastructure Ontario and Niagara Health with a team led by Brad Nicpon that included Tristan Musgrave, Godyne Sibay, Carrie Fleming, Puneet Kohli, William Loumankis (Real Property and Planning), Cynthia MacDougall, Belinda Schubert (Municipal), Ian Mak, Gurvir Sangha, Christopher Zawadzki (Business), and Kate McNeil-Keller (Labour and Employment).
