On May 2, 2013, Glencore International completed the acquisition of Xstrata for US$90 billion, representing the largest-ever takeover in the mining sector.
This will create the world’s fourth largest natural resources company and the largest fully integrated mine-to-market organisation in a number of resource and agricultural commodities worldwide.
Glencore, headquartered in Baar, Switzerland, is an integrated producer and marketer of commodities.
Xstrata, headquartered in Zug, Switzerland, is an Anglo-Swiss multinational mining company.
