Canadian automotive dealership targeted in cyber-breach

In September 2020, a threat actor presenting themselves as a "white hat" security specialist targeted a major car Canadian car dealership network. The threat actor announced the vulnerability and data ex-filtration on Twitter and sent a copy of the tweet to the privacy commissioner of Canada. The threat actor agreed to sign an NDA and securely destroy exfiltrated data upon “payment for services”. 

McCarthy Tétrault advised the cyber-breach target with a team led by Charles Morgan that included Karl Tabbakh, Véronique Wattiez Larose, Mason Poplaw, and Ellen Y. Chen.
