Canadian Association of Black Lawyers intervenes in Quebec Superior Court case concerning racial profiling in police motor vehicle stops

McCarthy Tétrault represented the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers, as intervener, before the Quebec Superior Court in Luamba c. Procureur général du Québec 2022 QCCS 3866. The Quebec Superior Court holds that police motor vehicle stops without cause are a violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms because in addition to being arbitrary, they have a detrimental effect on black people.

The Canadian Association of Black Lawyers is national network of law professionals and individuals that reinvests in the Black community.

McCarthy Tétrault represented the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers with a team led by Karine Joizil that included Sajeda Hedaraly, Amy Dupuis-Sène and Bianca Marcelin.
