Vincent Kam-Sun Yip is counsel in our National Intellectual Property and Business Law groups. His practice focuses on the acquisition, commercialization, and enforcement of patent, trade-mark, and other intellectual property rights. He has significant experience providing intellectual property assistance on corporate and commercial transactions, including in mergers and acquisitions.  Based in Vancouver, Vincent assists clients across the country and works closely with our Calgary and Toronto offices.

Vincent is a registered Canadian patent agent and is registered to represent Canadian residents before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. His patent experience includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications, negotiating patent licenses, preparing freedom-to-operate analyses, and providing support for patent litigation.

Vincent is also a registered trade-mark agent. His experience in this area includes the negotiation of trade-mark licenses, co-existence agreements, and settlement agreements. He also handles all aspects of trade-mark opposition proceedings.

Vincent has conducted seminars on various intellectual property related topics, including patents, trade-marks, copyright, licensing, and security interests in intellectual property assets, for organizations such as the Canadian Bar Association, the Continuing Legal Education Society of B.C., BioAlberta, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Student Biotechnology Network.

He received his B.Sc. (Honours) in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of British Columbia in 2004 and his LLB from the University of British Columbia. He was called to the British Columbia bar.

Vincent is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of British Columbia. He is also an affiliate member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada. He is an Executive Member of the CBA National Intellectual Property Section and the ex-chair of the Intellectual Property and Technology Law Section of the CBA (BC Branch).
