Tony Zhou is an associate in the Business Law Group in Toronto. He maintains a general practice advising on a broad range of corporate and commercial transactions.

During his time at the firm, Tony has assisted clients in domestic and international financing transactions, securities issuances and corporate restructurings spanning financial services, mining, energy, private equity, real estate, technology, education, healthcare, cannabis and entertainment industries.

Representative Transactions include:

  • Cineworld Group plc in the C$2.8 billion proposed agreement to acquire Cineplex
  • Endeavour Mining on its C$1 billion all-stock acquisition of TSX-listed SEMAFO which operates the Boungou and Mana gold mines in Burkina Fasoo
  • Calibre Mining Corp. in its acquisition of mining assets in Nicaragua from B2Gold Corp. and strategic partnership with B2Gold

Tony received his JD and MBA degrees from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and Rotman School of Management in 2019 and was recognized as an Andrew Alexander Kinghorn Fellow and a Bergman Scholar for his academic achievements. Prior to his legal education, Tony received his BA in Sociology and Social Studies of Medicine from McGill University in 2015.

Tony’s involvement with the Creative Destruction Lab at the Rotman School of Management allowed him to take on instrumental roles in the strategic business planning of a start-up company in the agricultural technology sector, including its business and pricing model development and market analyses. During his MBA, Tony also worked as a communications and engagement officer at a Canadian consulting firm specializing in the management of environmental, social and governance risks in the mining, oil and gas sector.

Prior to joining the firm, Tony interned at a leading Chinese corporate law firm based in Shanghai, China. His internship experience allows him to understand and navigate discrepancies in business culture and practices between Canadian and Chinese clients. Tony also has working proficiency in Mandarin and Cantonese.

Tony was called to the bar in 2020 and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association.
