Shayan Kamalie is an associate in our Litigation Group in Toronto. He maintains a diverse practice with a focus on commercial litigation. Shayan has broad experience in contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, professional liability and directors’ and officers’ liability.
Prior to joining McCarthy Tétrault, Shayan practiced at a leading regional firm in Toronto where he defended financial advisors, banks, insurers and construction companies.
Shayan regularly represents clients before the Superior Court of Justice. He has successfully handled a variety of contested motions, including motions for summary judgment as well as motions to strike pleadings. Shayan has also represented clients’ interests in a number of multi-party mediations dealing with a wide range of civil litigation matters. His ultimate aim is to achieve excellent results for clients, whether in the courtroom or through negotiation.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Shayan was a Reservist in the Canadian Armed Forces where he participated in challenging field exercises and simulations. This experience enhanced his ability to think strategically and exercise sound judgment under pressure – qualities he brings to his legal practice.
Shayan received his law degree (JD) from the University of Ottawa Law in 2016. He obtained his Honours BA (with Distinction) in Criminology from York University in 2013.
Shayan was called to the Ontario Bar in 2017. He is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Advocates’ Society, Canadian Bar Association and Ontario Bar Association.
