McGill University

Matthew is currently completing a Bachelor of Civil Law and Juris Doctor at McGill University’s Faculty of Law. Prior to law school, Matthew completed a Hons. Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management, as well as a Master’s of Political Management at Carleton University. Before starting law school, he worked on Parliament Hill for several years as a political advisor to a Member of Parliament, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, and the Minister of Families, Children, and Social Development.

Since starting law school, Matthew has rounded out his legal education with legal-clinic experience, working at Innocence McGill, the Legal Information Clinic at McGill, and Pro Bono Students Canada. Last summer, Matthew worked as a director of Innocence McGill, leading a team to review and help overturn wrongful convictions for serious criminal offenses.

Matthew has long had a passion for oral advocacy, having won the North American Universities Debating Championship and Canadian National Debating Championship for intercollegiate debate while at Carleton. Since starting law school, he competed at the Wilson Moot, an appellate-level mock trial attended by over a dozen law schools from across Canada, where he was honored with the Peter W. Hogg award for the best individual oralist of the competition.
