Matt Vaughan is a partner in our Business Law Group in Toronto. He practices exclusively in the area of private equity, advising institutional and private equity investors on a range of corporate and investment transactions, including fund formation, primary investments, co-investments, continuation fund investments, and secondary market acquisitions. Prior to focusing his practice on private equity, Matt spent several years working in the areas of private and public M&A, as well as advising on capital markets transactions.

- Northleaf Capital Partners in connection with its co-investments in various acquisitions and its primary, secondary and continuation fund investments in various investment funds.
- CBRE Investment Management in connection with its co-investments in various acquisitions, its primary investments in various investment funds and its fund formation activities.
- Fiera Comox in connection with its co-investments in various acquisitions and its primary and continuation fund investments in various investment funds.
- A range of clients – including Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS), British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI), Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP), University Pension Plan (UPP), Teachers’ Retirement Allowances Fund (TRAF), Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), BMO Capital Partners, TD Asset Management, and RBC Capital Partners – on various primary investments, co-investments, continuation fund investments and other transactions.
Matt is an active mentor, as well as an active contributor to pro bono initiatives, including volunteering for the legal advice hotline for Pro Bono Ontario.
Matt obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto in 2016. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, First Class Honours, from McGill University.
