Layali Awwad is completing her J.D. at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law. Prior to law school, Layali graduated magna cum laude from Kenyon College, where she obtained her Honours Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. She received a distinction on her undergraduate thesis exploring the intersection between gender and foreign policy in the Middle East. Layali previously worked at a law office where she assisted in immigration cases.
Layali is actively involved in the Ottawa community. She is a Caseworker at Community Legal Services of Ottawa, a Junior Editor at the Canadian Journal of Women and the Law, and a Co-Chair of the Research Committee for the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyer. She is a Legal Writing Leader at the law school’s Legal Writing Academy, where she grades student memos and client advice letters for different courses and conducts legal writing conferences.
In her spare time, Layali enjoys travelling, biking, jogging, and spending time with friends and family.
