Solutions-oriented and highly responsive, Laura helps clients navigate the environmental aspects of complex transactions to successfully close deals.

Laura Weingarden is a partner in McCarthy Tétrault’s Business Law Group, and Environmental, Regulatory and Aboriginal (ERA) Group based in Toronto. An environmental transaction lawyer with cross-border expertise, Laura advises clients on a variety of technical, regulatory and contractual issues to help them navigate large, complex projects and close deals.

Laura’s in-depth knowledge of the environmental sector enables her to help clients identify and pursue strategic growth opportunities, wherever their business needs take them. With a focus on maximizing outcomes and minimizing risks, Laura acts for clients across a wide range of industries, and she has extensive experience in supporting clients on mining projects and within the energy sector, from due diligence and environmental liability assessment to a successful close. She also has deep knowledge of industry, government and Indigenous affairs, having acted for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous clients in environmental, natural resource energy, and other matters.

Laura was admitted to the Ontario Bar in June 2013. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in philosophy and political science from the University of Windsor in 2009, her JD from the University of Windsor in 2012 and her LL.M. from the University of California, Berkeley Law, in 2016, with certificates of specialization in environmental law and energy and clean technology law.
