Laaiba Nawal is currently completing a Canadian and American Dual JD at the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society with a Minor in Sociology from the University of Calgary. During her undergraduate degree, Laaiba co-founded UofC for SHE, a non-profit organization supporting education for under-privileged females in developing countries.
In her first year of law school, Laaiba served as an executive member of the Health Law Club and competed in various moot and alternative dispute resolution competitions. Upon completion of her first year, Laaiba had the opportunity to work at the Washtenaw County Office of Public Defender in Michigan as a summer intern. During this internship, she represented numerous clients in criminal proceedings before a judge under the supervision of an attorney. During her second year of law school, Laaiba served as co-chair for the Student Law Society’s Multi-Fest Committee which promotes inclusion and diversity on campus. Outside of school, she enjoys swimming, rock climbing, wedding planning, and creative art and expression such as makeup and henna.
