Karen Luu is an associate in the Business Law Group in Toronto. Her practice focuses on corporate law, with an emphasis on private equity fund formation and mergers and acquisitions transactions.
In addition to advising on both private equity and strategic buy-outs, Karen advises institutional clients and family offices on primary, secondary and co-investment opportunities and sponsors on various fund formation activities.
Representative Transactions Include:
- T-Base Communications, a portfolio company of Thompson Street Capital Partners, in its acquisition of CommonLook
- The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company (Manulife) in the sale of Regional Power Inc. to Connor, Clark & Lunn Infrastructure and Desjardins
- Noventa-Toronto Western L.P., in entering into a thermal energy services agreement with the University Health Network
- City Capital Ventures in its acquisition of Burger King and Pizza Hut franchisee business from Redberry Group, as well as in its acquisition of Taco Bell franchisee business from Sundance Group
Karen received a J.D. in 2018 and a business degree with a specialization in Finance & Administration in 2014 from the University of Western Ontario (Western). Prior to law, Karen worked for a major bank and leading consumer packaged goods company.
Karen was called to the bar in 2019. She is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association.
