Abbey (Junior) Sirivar is a partner in McCarthy Tétrault’ s Litigation Group and Co-Chair of the firm’s International Arbitration Group. Junior advises domestic and international clients, including mining, banking and telecommunications companies in complex commercial disputes.

Junior has acted as lead counsel in both domestic and international commercial arbitrations and as trial and appellant counsel in a variety of civil matters, appearing before all levels of court in Ontario.

Junior is a member of the firm’s Global Mining Litigation Practice Group and holds a certificate in Mining Law from Osgoode Hall Law School. He has assisted mining clients with commercial disputes arising from a variety of agreements, including shareholders’ agreements, joint ventures and royalty agreements.

He is also a member of McCarthy Tétrault’ s National Class Actions Group and has defended high profile class proceedings involving cross border litigation, financial restatements and charitable tax shelters.

Junior is ranked in the current edition of Chambers Canada as Leading Lawyer in the area of Dispute Resolution: Arbitration. Junior is listed as a “Leader in Your Field” in the 2018 Edition of Lexpert's Canadian Legal Directory and is noted as “Repeatedly Recommended” for corporate commercial litigation matters. Junior has also been consistently ranked as a “Litigation Star” by Benchmark Canada. He is a recipient of a 2010 Lexpert Zenith Award honouring him for his pro bono representation of the victims of a Pogrom in Romania on whose behalf an order declaring violations of numerous articles and protocols of the European Convention on Human Rights was obtained from the European Court of Human Rights.
