Janet Hoyt leads McCarthy Tétrault’s Career Advancement Office (CAO). Aligned with the firm’s leadership in legal service delivery excellence and talent management, McCarthy Tétrault established the CAO to better support its lawyers in achieving their career aspirations.
Using her significant career development expertise, Ms. Hoyt encourages McCarthy Tétrault lawyers to explore their career aspirations in a proactive and strategic manner. In addition, she collaborates with the firm’s partners with a view to establishing the CAO as a valuable resource to clients and potential clients looking to augment their legal teams. In that regard, Ms. Hoyt facilitates introductions where lawyers or alumni are interested in exploring new opportunities.
Ms. Hoyt has more than 30 years of experience in the legal profession; first as a practising lawyer, then as a developer of legal talent and, more recently, as an executive coach. She has counseled countless lawyers on career opportunities and career advancement. Prior to joining McCarthy Tétrault, Ms. Hoyt spent 16 years at another major Canadian law firm in a senior talent management role. She is recognized as a strong leader who focuses on people’s strengths to motivate exceptional performance and loyalty.
Ms. Hoyt completed her BA at Acadia University and her LL.B. at the University of New Brunswick. She obtained her coaching credentials from Royal Roads University and is a member of the International Coaching Federation.
