Emily MacKinnon is an associate in our Litigation Group in Vancouver and Toronto. Her broad litigation practice encompasses high-level regulatory and commercial disputes as well as public law matters. She has argued at the Supreme Court of Canada and at all levels of court in British Columbia and Ontario.
Emily has experience in complex commercial litigation including class actions, product liability actions, competition matters and shareholder disputes. She has handled regulatory matters engaging both quasi-criminal and civil liability. She has also acted in a wide variety of appeals engaging issues ranging from tort law to constitutional law, taxation, and criminal law.
Prior to joining the firm, Emily clerked at the Supreme Court of Canada for Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin. She received her JD from the University of British Columbia in 2012, where she graduated as the gold medallist and as a Wesbrook Scholar. In 2014, she was selected by UBC to receive the Young Alumnus Award, which recognizes “a young alumnus whose accomplishments are of such excellence that they provide inspiration and leadership to students and other young alumni.”
Emily maintains an active pro bono practice and sits on the board of directors of the UBC Allard School of Law Alumni Association. She is also the CBA appointee to the board of directors of the Association des juristes d’expression française de la Colombie-Britannique.
Emily is a fixed-wing pilot, an opera singer, and a legal officer with the Canadian Forces reserves. She speaks English, French, and Italian.
