Ellen Yifan Chen has particular interest and experience in finance, banking and securities. Prior to her legal career, Ellen worked for international financial institutions including BNP Paribas and Wells Fargo. She holds a degree in finance and economics from the University of Toronto. She also has experience in risk management and was part of the risk management team covering the Canadian lending portfolio at Wells Fargo. Ellen developed experience with high risk transactions at the Bank of Export Development Canada and worked on multi-million dollar transactions in both her finance and legal career.
Ellen has a history of involvement in institutional and corporate governance. She has been on high-level governance boards of the University of Toronto, McGill University, various student governments as well as public organizations.
Ellen studied civil and common law at the Faculty of Law at McGill University. During her studies, she was a member of the Canadian team that won first prize at the IBFD International Tax Law Moot in Amsterdam against 24 international teams. She passed her examinations for the Quebec and Ontario bars. Ellen is also trilingual, speaking French, English and Mandarin.
