Cole Pizzo is an Associate in the Litigation Group in Toronto. He maintains a broad practice, with a focus on complex commercial litigation.

Prior to joining McCarthy Tetrault, Cole worked as an associate at a top litigation boutique in Toronto. There, he maintained an active trial, appeals, and arbitration practice, gaining experience appearing as counsel in high-stakes disputes worth hundreds of millions of dollars. He acted in a broad range of mandates, including disputes in corporate governance, contract, trust, and class actions. Cole’s clients included private and public corporations, partners in venture capital funds, law firms, indigenous governments, real estate investment trusts, and global charities.

Before working in private practice, Cole clerked for the judges of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice—assisting in disputes at the trial level and in appeals before the Divisional Court. His experience as a judicial clerk instilled a sharp sense of what judges expect and how to strategically advance a client’s position.

Cole received his Honours B.A. from the University of Guelph and his J.D. from Queen’s University Faculty of Law.

At law school, Cole earned the highest standing in multiple courses, served as an academic tutor, and received awards for excellence in volunteer positions. Cole summered at Queen’s Legal Aid where he represented low-income clients facing various legal issues. In his final year of study, Cole competed at the OTLA Cup and was awarded for the best cross-examination, published a paper on class actions, and presented at a legal conference where he earned recognition as a top oralist.
