Aya Schechner is an associate in our Litigation Group in Toronto. She maintains a general trial and appellate litigation practice, with an emphasis on commercial disputes, professional liability, and public law.
Before joining the Firm as an associate, Aya clerked for Chief Justice Richard Wagner at the Supreme Court of Canada. She also served as a law clerk at the Court of Appeal for Ontario, where she assisted Justices Kathryn N. Feldman, Katherine van Rensburg, Ian V.B. Nordheimer, and Jill M. Copeland. Aya previously completed her articles with the Firm.
Aya received her JD with distinction from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. She graduated as the Silver Medalist and was recognized with the Dean’s Key for her extracurricular and academic achievements. While in law school, Aya worked as a research assistant to Professor Yasmin Dawood and volunteered as a Student Director at Artists’ Legal Advice Services. Prior to law school, Aya obtained a Bachelor of Commerce (Dean’s Honour List) from the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University.
Aya was called to the Ontario bar in 2021. She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Bar Association, and The Advocates’ Society.
