Aya received her J.D. from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 2020. She graduated as the Silver Medalist and was recognized with the Dean’s Key for her extra-curricular and academic achievements throughout law school. Prior to law school, Aya earned her Bachelor of Commerce (Dean’s Honour List) from the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University.
Throughout law school, Aya worked as a research assistant to Professor Yasmin Dawood, and has conducted comparative research on voter qualifications and the law of democracy. In her final year, she completed a Directed Research Project focused on data protection in the electoral campaign context. Aya was also an executive member of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law Review for two years, most recently serving as its Director of Business and Development.
Aya developed her interest in advocacy through mooting and clinical work. With her team, she won the 2019 Harold G. Fox Intellectual Property Moot and received an award for writing the best respondent factum. The following year, Aya was a coach of the winning 2020 Fox Moot team. Aya also volunteered as a Student Director at Artists’ Legal Advice Services, a pro-bono legal clinic providing advice to artists in Ontario.
In her free time, Aya enjoys listening to podcasts, reading contemporary fiction, cooking, and trying new restaurants.
