Aathmika provides clients with strategic advice on their most transformational and complex multi-jurisdictional corporate transactions, including public and private mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures. Her practice spans key economy-shaping industries (including the mining, technology, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals and oil and gas industries).
Aathmika is an Associate in McCarthy Tétrault’s Business Law Group in Toronto.
Prior to joining McCarthy Tétrault, Aathmika practiced for over eight years in the London office of a major international law firm, which included secondments to the firm’s New York office, a financial adviser (focusing on public mergers and acquisitions) and a telecoms company (as head of the legal team). Aathmika brings an international and client-focussed perspective to deliver thoughtful and practical advice to her clients.
Aathmika’s recent experience includes advising on multi-billion dollar and multi-jurisdictional joint ventures of telecoms and power grids infrastructure assets, swaps of pharmaceuticals assets, as well as acquisitions of founder-led businesses and a mobile network operator.
Aathmika also leverages her M&A expertise and international experience to advise Canadian pension funds on compliance with complex Canadian pension legislation when making investments, including associated structuring and shareholder arrangements.
Aathmika graduated in 2011 with a LLB (Hons) from University College London as a member of the Dean’s List. Aathmika received her Legal Practice Course qualification from BPP Law School in London, UK. She was admitted to practice in England & Wales in 2014 and was called to the Ontario bar in 2023. She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association.
