Sarit Batner receives OBA’s 2021 Award of Excellence in Civil Litigation

McCarthy Tétrault has the great pleasure of announcing that Sarit Batner, a partner in our Litigation Group, has received the Ontario Bar Association’s (OBA) 2021 Award of Excellence in Civil Litigation.

This award specifically recognizes an OBA member’s contributions and achievements in one or more of several areas: outstanding advocacy skills; professionalism, integrity and civility; the teaching of civil litigation; enhancement of its practice; and leadership at the Civil Litigation Bar. Sarit’s selection confirms the high regard in which she is held by colleagues at the bar. Earlier this year, Sarit was inducted as a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers. 

The OBA’s recognition of Sarit follows a stellar career in advocacy on behalf of McCarthy Tétrault’s clients. She has been lead counsel on precedent-setting decisions before the Supreme Court of Canada and in Ontario courts, where her skill as a litigator is often matched against counsel many years her senior. She has contributed significantly to legal education, leading courses on trial advocacy at the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall. Within McCarthy Tétrault, Sarit sits on the Board of Partners and is an ardent advocate for inclusion and equity, playing a key role in recruiting, mentoring, and retaining women in the legal profession.

Among her other accolades, Sarit is recognized by Lexpert, Chambers and Benchmark Litigation as a leading lawyer in commercial litigation, and she was a Lexpert Rising Star – Leading Lawyers Under 40. She is also listed among Lexpert’s Top 500 Lawyers in Canada and was named Best Lawyer’s 2020 Lawyer of the Year in the area of medical negligence. In 2018, Sarit received the prestigious Lexpert Zenith Award, recognizing mid-career excellence, and she has spent seven consecutive years on Benchmark Canada’s Top 50 Trial Lawyers in Canada and Top 50 Women in Canadian Litigation
