Prompt Payment, Adjudication and Construction Liens in Alberta

March 22, 2023

Time of event

Join us for a relaxed evening of food, refreshments, and music to celebrate the official publication of the newly titled: Prompt Payment, Adjudication, and Construction Liens in Alberta, 2021-2022, authored by Bryan G. West and Allyson Hopkins, co-authored by Jordan Bierkos.

Never has there been more uncertainty about the impact of construction legislation than there is following the coming into force of the Prompt Payment and Construction Lien Act (“PPCLA”) (formerly, the Builders’ Liens Act). The PPCLA is designed to impact the daily operation of construction projects as it relates to payment obligations under those projects. Industry participants (whether proponents, contractors, suppliers, consultants, or lenders) can be the leaders in adopting and implementing practices informed by the PPCLA, or be outmaneuvered by those who are. Never has it been more pressing to have a detailed walk through the PPCLA than now in the wake of the PPCLA coming into force. Prompt Payment, Adjudication, and Construction Liens in Alberta, 2021-2022 provides readers with a practical user-manual for navigating the PPCLA, in particular the newly added provisions concerning prompt payment and adjudication.
