OEB Advisory Committee on Innovation Submits Report to the Chair

The Ontario Energy Board has posted the Report of the Chair’s Advisory Committee on Innovation. The report is aimed at identifying Regulatory practices that impede innovation in technology deployment and business practices. The main focus of proposed regulatory changes is with respect to the integration of distributed energy resources into distribution systems and utility remuneration models. Other related issues are:

  • a reconsideration of the restrictions on utility services and greater flexibility in the range of regulated services that can be provided;
  • how system information can be used to identify customer needs and opportunities; and
  • greater flexibility and timeliness for OEB determinations of innovative customer driven offers.

The Committee (which includes McCarthy Tétrault’s George Vegh) considered a number of international reforms aimed at facilitating innovative solutions to regulating energy services and how they can be applied in Ontario.

The Board will commence consultations on the Report in the new year.

Please contact George Vegh for further information on the Report.
