McCarthy Tétrault lawyers collaborate on new edition of intellectual property case law book

Toronto, January 9, 2013 — McCarthy Tétrault is pleased to announce that its partners Barry Sookman, Steven Mason and Daniel Glover have released the 2013 edition of Intellectual Property Law in Canada: Cases and Commentary, published by Carswell.

This edition will be of particular interest to private practitioners, in-house lawyers, law students, law professors and librarians. The authors have selected the important cases in IP law, including very recent cases from the Supreme Court of Canada and other appellant courts, to provide the most up to date and instructive set of materials on IP law in Canada.

All three authors are adjunct professors of intellectual property at Osgoode Hall Law School at York University. They are well-known for their expertise in IP law, with experience appearing before all types of IP regulatory bodies and all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

Mr. Sookman is a partner and former co-leader of the firm’s Technology Law Group, and the former head of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. He is recognized as one of Canada’s foremost authorities in information technology, intellectual property, e-commerce, Internet and privacy law. Mr. Sookman acts in connection with complex IT/IP transactions such as outsourcings and in complex IT/IP litigation. He has argued numerous precedent-setting cases at all levels of courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada and various courts of appeal.

Mr. Mason is one of McCarthy Tétrault’s most experienced trial and appellate lawyers. He focuses his practice on IP and related disputes, and has been lead counsel in many cases involving patent, trademark, copyright and trade secrets. He also advises clients on validity and infringement, and appears regularly before the Patent Appeals Board, Copyright Board and Patented Medicines Prices Review Board. Mr. Mason is a member of the Ontario bar and the State Bar of California.

Mr. Glover focuses his practice on intellectual property management, acquisition and protection, including by way of litigation. He has a particular interest in all aspects of information and media law, including Internet law, copyright and trademark protection, and data protection and privacy compliance. He has represented clients in complex matters before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Federal Court and the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal, and has won victories as sole counsel in trademark matters before the Federal Court and the Trade-marks Opposition Board. He is also the sole Canadian contributor to the Global Privacy and Security Law Reference (Aspen Publishers).
