It is important that any employer requiring a criminal record check as a pre-condition of employment comply with applicable privacy and human rights legislation. The McCarthy Tétrault Labour and Employment group recently published a blog post reviewing the laws applicable to criminal record checks by employers in British Columbia. These laws are an important consideration for organizations that may require their vendors to run criminal record checks or have similar expectations from their customers.
