United Way Inclusion Now Gift – Investing in Communities Where We Work and Live
McCarthy Tétrault believes that our efforts to create an inclusive workplace and an inclusive society are mutually reinforcing, which is why we have brought diversity and social responsibility together under one plan.
The Inclusion Now Gift, McCarthy Tétrault’s trailblazing five-year, $5-million commitment is being invested in United Way Centraide agencies and programs in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montréal, and Québec City that work to remove barriers to inclusion for marginalized groups and populations who face daily challenges:
- Newcomers to Canada,
- Indigenous peoples,
- Members of the LGBTQ2S+ community,
- Women, and
- People with disabilities.
We know that individuals from these communities face barriers to full participation in Canadian society, and that these barriers are further amplified when people are living in poverty.
Since launching in October 2018, McCarthy Tétrault’s Inclusion Now gift has made a difference in the lives of thousands of individuals across Canada each year (see below).
In October of 2023, the Firm recommitted to the Inclusion Now Gift, announcing another pledge of $5 million dollars over five years to United Way Centraide. In addition to supporting agencies across the country that make a difference in the lives of people from equity-seeking groups, the Firm pledged an additional $1 million dollar gift directed to tackling the growing crisis of homelessness across Canada. The additional $1 million dollar gift will be directed to United Way Centraide agencies and initiatives that offer emergency support for those at risk of imminent homelessness, and wraparound care for the complex issues that have lead to homelessness including, disability, mental illness, substance abuse, and intimate partner violence.
By stepping up to support the growing population of unhoused Canadians, we will continue to have an impact in the communities were we work and live, at the time it is needed most.
A break down of our Inclusion Now Gift impact in 2022, and since its inception in 2018. 71,947 individuals supported in total across the country since 2018.
