Pitching Diversity

Pitching Diversity: 2018 Student Diversity Grants

Pitch us your idea to improve diversity, and we’ll give you $1000 to make it happen. McCarthy Tétrault is committed to improving diversity and inclusion in the legal community. But we recognize that change can’t come from doing the same things the same way. New ideas require new conversations and new voices. That’s why we’re looking to the law students of British Columbia for your ideas on how to improve diversity in your schools and the legal profession. We want you to tell us how to make the law more inclusive, more representative, more diverse.

We’re asking you to submit short written proposals or videos pitching your ideas for diversity initiatives. The most exciting proposals will each receive $1000 to implement their ideas. Bring your big ideas – because diversity is no small matter.

What we’re looking for:

Any ideas that you think will improve diversity. No, really, we mean it - we’re looking for you to tell us what will improve your law school or the legal community.

How to submit a project:

  1. Write a short proposal – up to 500 words long – to tell us your idea. Be sure to include:
    • Who’s involved;
    • What the project’s about;
    • The goal of the project; and
    • How you will use $1000.
  2. Create a short video—up to 90 seconds long—to tell us your idea. Be sure to include the same details as above (who, what, goal, how).

Deadline is June 22, 2018, and winning projects will be announced in July 2018.

The fine print:

  • Submissions may be featured on the Pitching Diversity website and shown when successful projects are announced.
  • The principal applicant must be a student of a law school in British Columbia, but if appropriate, the pitch can involve non-law students.
