Two McCarthy Tétrault Project Financings Receive Americas Deal of the Year Awards from Project Finance International
Montréal, January 26, 2012 — McCarthy Tétrault is honoured to have acted as legal advisor on two major project financings that received "Americas Deal of the Year" awards at the 2011 Project Finance International (PFI) Awards that took place last night in London, UK.
After making Lexpert’s Top 10 Deals of 2011, Montréal’s new 772-bed Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) project received the Americas Bond Deal of the Year award. CHUM’s C$1.37 billion bond financing is the largest hospital P3 transaction in Canadian history. The transaction stood out for its size and meticulous structuring that made the project’s risks palatable to investors in a difficult market. McCarthy Tétrault acted as counsel to the bond arranger and sole underwriter RBC Dominion Securities Inc.
The Americas Renewables Deal of the Year award went to Québec’s 272 MW Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farm. The C$725 million financing for the Boralex Inc., Gaz Métro Limited Partnership and Valener Inc. project was Canada's largest renewable energy project financing in 2011. It was unique by its two-tranche structure, with one tranche being guaranteed by the Federal Republic of Germany through export credit agency Euler-Hermes. McCarthy Tétrault acted as counsel to Boralex Inc., Gaz Métro Limited Partnership and Valener Inc.
Project Finance International (PFI) is an authoritative source of global project finance intelligence.
