Shevaun is Co-Head of McCarthy Tétrault’s Private Equity Group and a member of the firm’s Board of Partners. An accomplished dealmaker, she has 25 years of experience leading some of Canada’s most high-profile transactions, including Vista Equity Partners’ US$4.4B take private of DH Corporation, one of the largest take privates in Canada and the unprecedented restructuring of $35B of asset backed commercial paper during the 2008 financial crisis. Shevaun is Chambers-ranked and continuously recognized by a number of publications for her outstanding contributions in M&A and private equity. Beyond her professional work, Shevaun actively participates in organizations such as the CVCA, PEWIN and Women in Private Equity. She is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of PE and M&A professionals, and her commitment has repeatedly earned her the firm's "Mentor of the Year" award, including most recently in 2024.

Steeves is a well-respected and committed advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in the legal profession. As the leader of our firm’s Litigation Group in Québec and a former president of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), he is a sought-after litigator with in-depth expertise in health law, medical and pharmaceutical liability, and professional negligence. Steeves advocates for the 2SLGBTQ+ community, he was the first Chair of McCarthy’s National Pride Action Group and was until recently responsible for the national diversity and inclusion initiatives towards this community. At his initiative, the CBA launched the Advisory Group on Inclusion and Access to Justice for Trans, Non-Binary, and Gender Diverse People. Recognized Advocatus Emeritus by the Barreau du Québec, his dedication to equality, justice and client service, demonstrated through his leadership in initiatives like our Inclusion Now Program, has significantly impacted and advanced equality in the legal profession.

Adam is a partner in our Litigation Group whose trial, appellate, and arbitration practice focuses on commercial and public law disputes. His transformative work on civil liberties cases has had a profound impact on Canadian law and civil society, especially for 2SLGBTQI+ people. Among other mandates, he is lead counsel in litigation against laws affecting gender diverse students in Saskatchewan and New Brunswick. Beyond litigation, Adam co-founded Gakino’amaage (Teach for Canada), serves on the Leadership Council of World Justice Project, co-authored a leading text on the Emergencies Act, hosts the Appealing Briefs podcast, and frequently speaks and writes on legal topics. He has been recognized in The Legal 500 and Lexpert for his efforts. By bringing his tenacity and skill as an advocate to the work of making our society more just, Adam has made important contributions to shaping Canadian law.
