McCarthy Tétrault’s Miranda Lam and Deandra Schubert receive prestigious Rising Stars Award

Two McCarthy Tétrault lawyers were selected to receive the Lexpert Rising Stars Award for Canada’s leading lawyers under 40. Miranda Lam, partner in the firm’s litigation group, and Deandra Schubert, associate in the business law group, both received this prestigious recognition last night during the Lexpert Rising Stars Awards Gala in Toronto.

“Miranda is widely regarded by clients and colleagues as a skilled litigator, strategic problem-solver, and trusted advisor. She has shown confidence and skill beyond her years and has litigated matters before all levels of court in various jurisdictions,” says Barbara Boake, National Practice Leader. “As for Deandra, she has made significant contributions to growing the firm’s relationship with several key clients. Her exemplary leadership abilities have earned her the highest respect from her clients and colleagues. Both Miranda and Deandra exemplify the level of talent and service that we are extremely proud to offer our clients.”

Miranda’s litigation practice is focused exclusively on complex business disputes such as contractual claims and economic torts. She specializes in securities litigation, shareholder remedies, corporate governance issues, and internal investigations, as well as internet and e-commerce issues and consumer protection. Within the firm, she is the Retail sector lead for the national Retail and Consumer Markets Group and an integral member of the Markets Committee, where she identifies opportunities for practice & industry groups to cross-sell and further integrate client service. In 2018, Miranda will be the first woman to chair the Vancouver Foundation, the largest community foundation in Canada with over $1B in assets.

Deandra has used her business acumen to create a diverse practice, which focuses on public and private mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, corporate governance, shareholder activism and general corporate matters. She is a trusted advisor for major clients such as Fairfax and Jamieson Wellness. She has also made significant contributions within the firm, namely as a regular contributor to continuing education seminars. She is a thought leader in her field and has been one of the most-read authors on the firm’s M&A blog. In the community, she served as the first chair of the organizing committee of the Toronto Board of Trade Young Professionals Network.

Every year, Lexpert Rising Stars awards are attributed to nominees from law firms, in-house teams and government. Winners are selected by an independent Lexpert Advisory Board. For more information, please go to
