Based in our Vancouver office, he rejoins McCarthy Tétrault after a decade in legal and mining industry executive roles in North and South America. Over the past two decades, Shawn has built a strong reputation as a Latin America-focused lawyer and a mining industry expert.

A seasoned international mining transactional lawyer and business leader with a deep knowledge of the global mining landscape, as well as other industries, Shawn is trusted by clients to advise on their most important M&A, joint venture, financing and commercial transactions. Shawn is an astute business advisor, having held corporate leadership roles in the mining sector. Shawn has lived and worked in each of North America, South America, Europe and Asia, giving him a thorough and unique understanding of the key issues that impact clients with international mining interests.

Shawn is fluent in Spanish and his ties to Latin America are particularly strong. He has spent time working for a large mining company in both Chile and Canada, and currently divides his time between Canada and South America. Moreover, his broader experience in Latin America extends far beyond mining, and, as the Leader of our Latin America practice, Shawn will advise clients on their investments throughout the region, as well as Latin American clients with interests in Canada.
