McCarthy Tétrault strengthens its Tax Litigation Group in Montréal with new partner Dominic Bédard-Lapointe

McCarthy Tétrault welcomes Dominic Bédard-Lapointe as a partner in the firm’s National Tax Group. Based in the Montréal office, he will provide national support to clients and will reinforce McCarthy Tétrault’s multidisciplinary expertise in Tax Litigation. His practice focuses on tax disputes specific to large corporate groups, including those arising from complex corporate reorganizations and the application of the general anti-avoidance rule.

Dominic brings a truly unique expertise, having worked for both national law firms and for the Canadian Department of Justice. His experience representing both taxpayers and the Crown gives him a unique perspective in the establishment of effective litigation strategies.

Dominic teaches at HEC Montréal as part of the master's degree in taxation. After completing a master's degree in taxation himself and beginning his career in transactional taxation in a national firm, he now devotes himself exclusively to tax litigation.

Seasoned speaker and author of numerous publications on the topic of taxes, Dominic is also co-chair of the young tax experts of the Canadian Tax Foundation in Montreal, in addition to sitting on the Board of Governors of this organization at the national level.

Mr. Bédard-Lapointe was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 2011 and holds degrees from HEC Montréal (LL.M. fisc., 2011) and Laval University (LL.B., 2008).

“Dominic’s arrival strengthens and diversifies our capabilities in tax litigation. Our expertise in tax controversies, from the audit stage through to court, will greatly benefit from Dominic’s unique experience at the Department of Justice,” said Brett Anderson, partner in and the co-head of McCarthy Tétrault’s National Tax Group.

“Tax laws are technical, constantly expanding and regularly amended. I am very happy to know our clients will benefit from the hands-on and multifaceted understanding of the tax laws that Dominic brings to the Firm,” says Karl Tabbakh, Regional Managing Partner for Québec.
