McCarthy Tétrault receives four Benchmark Canada awards

Toronto, February 7, 2014 — McCarthy Tétrault is delighted to announce that Euromoney Legal Media Group’s Benchmark Canada directory honoured the firm and its partners Andrew Reddon and Steven Mason with four awards at its 2014 gala in Toronto last night. McCarthy Tétrault litigators David Porter, Andrew Matheson, David Tait and Sanjaya Mendis also attended the event.

McCarthy Tétrault was recognized in the following categories:

  • National Impact Case, for the firm’s successful representation of former Nortel CEO Frank Dunn in Regina v. Dunn, Beatty and Gollogly
  • National Impact Case, for having successfully assisted Merck in Merck & Co. Inc. and Merck Canada Inc. v. Apotex Inc. et al., wherein Merck recovered more than C$180 million in damages and interest for Apotex’s infringement of Merck’s Canadian lovastatin patent – possibly the largest patent damages award in Canada to date
  • National Impact Case, for having successfully assisted TD Bank as an intervenor in The Commissioner of Competition v. Visa Canada Corporation and MasterCard International Incorporated, wherein TD Bank secured the Competition Tribunal’s dismissal of a Competition Commissioner’s complaint regarding alleged anti-competitive practices related to credit card fees charged to merchants
  • Intellectual Property Litigator of the Year – Patents for partners Andrew Reddon and Steven Mason, recognized for their exceptional knowledge of patents and superior trial skills
