McCarthy Tétrault partners with HEC Montréal’s new Chair in Energy Sector Management

Montréal, December 16, 2013 — McCarthy Tétrault is very pleased to announce its business partnership with HEC Montréal’s Chair in Energy Sector Management, which is held by Professor Pierre-Olivier Pineau, a renowned expert on energy policy. The new Chair is dedicated to advancing knowledge of energy issues, with the goal of optimizing energy systems and ensuring that there are adequate energy sources to meet society’s needs.

The Chair will focus on three themes: understanding energy systems and global issues; studying the dynamics of the transportation, construction and industrial sectors; and studying the structure and regulation of the different energy sectors.

In its role as partner to the Chair, McCarthy Tétrault will contribute a total of $100,000 over a five-year period. In addition, Marc Dorion, a partner in the firm’s Business Law Group and a prominent lawyer in the energy sector, will serve on the Chair’s advisory committee.

"Our firm has more than 30 professionals dedicated to the oil and gas industry, and to the conventional and renewable electricity sectors in Canada and abroad," said Kim Thomassin, McCarthy Tétrault’s managing partner for the Québec region. "We understand the industry’s importance to Québec and the rest of Canada. Our partnership with the Chair in Energy Sector Management is fully consistent with our desire to remain at the forefront of this industry and to keep providing our clients with better service."
